Wodonga Station offered GHD Woodhead the opportunity to create a new piece of public architecture that will be an integral part of community infrastructure, representing the link to Melbourne and other regional destinations.
GHD Woodhead was engaged by the Victorian Department of Transport to create a design that is modern, attractive, and comfortable. The project brief included an air-conditioned waiting room, passenger amenities and staff facilities, that incorporates a high level of sustainable design.
The primary timber and glass materials, combined with the simple colourbond roof deck, create a simple, low-maintenance design. Rainwater is captured in below ground tanks for toilet flushing and irrigation. Glazed planks are used in the amenities area to maximise daylight use, and facilitate cleaning and long term durability. The station is clad with local timber species to respond to community input and the local environs.
