The Ferny Grove Station upgrade provides a legible and attractive station facility which responds to key issues including: accessibility, security and crime prevention, rail operations, platform configuration and capacity, enhancement of the integrated transport offer to Brisbane’s north-western suburbs, and park‘n’ride and kiss‘n’ride facilities.
As commissioned by Queensland Rail, GHD Woodhead designed an architectural expression that is simple yet distinctive, acting as a local landmark to aid legibility and create a sense of place, as well as being able to respond to future site redevelopment plans.
Circulation planning is designed to slow the movement of traffic through the precinct. The elimination of stairs enhances pedestrian circulation to provide improved access for all customers within the station and platforms. Environmentally sustainable design initiatives include: solar photovoltaic cells, solar hot water, recycled concrete, seating made from recycled materials, and rainwater capture for flushing.
