GHD Woodhead has been engaged to provide architecture and interior design services for the 203 North Terrace mixed use development in Adelaide, South Australia.
The project has received development approval after a rigorous process of design review with the City Design Review Panel, Government Architect and Heritage SA.
The 17 storey elegant, textured and contemporary tower will be constructed within the façade of an existing state heritage-listed warehouse. The new structure is designed to take advantage of the northern views across the River Torrens within the context of other North Terrace heritage buildings.
The development will establish a new benchmark for upmarket apartments in the city, with one 330 sqm penthouse style apartment per floor as well as commercial office and retail tenancies.
The project presents significant technical challenges due to the requirement for underpinning and a temporary steel structure to stabilise the heritage facades during construction. The developer also requires significant off-site prefabrication due to the constricted site.
Jim Williams, GHD Woodhead’s Senior Principal Architect, says, “This project is a great opportunity for GHD Woodhead to demonstrate our team’s high level design skills and technical leadership in architecture and interior design on a high-profile CBD site.”
